Willamette Wolverines Boys Soccer 2-1 Springfield

A hard-fought 2-1 victory over Springfield gave Willamette boys soccer its first Midwestern League (5A) win of the season Tuesday evening in Eugene, Oregon. The Wolverines, who entered the match sitting at 3-4-2 overall, delivered when it mattered most on their home pitch, holding off the Millers to move to 4-4-2 on the year and 1-0 in conference play.
With the win coming in their league opener, Willamette now has a clean slate to build on in the standings. Springfield made things interesting until the final whistle, keeping the margin tight at one goal, but the Wolverines showed enough composure to protect the lead and close it out.
The result is a timely confidence boost for a squad that has been searching for consistency through the early part of the fall. A strong start in Midwestern League play can go a long way toward securing a postseason spot. Willamette will look to carry this momentum into its next conference matchup.
