Elmira picked up its first win of the season Friday night, defeating Umatilla 26-14 in a non-league football game on home turf in Elmira, Oregon. The Falcons, members of the Mountain Valley Conference (3A), entered the contest having dropped their first three outings, and wasted little time making a statement against the visiting Indians. Elmira controlled enough of the game to pull away for the 12-point victory, moving to 1-3 on the year. The win is a meaningful turning point for a squad that had been searching for momentum through the early weeks of the fall. A home crowd got to see the Falcons finally break through, and that kind of confidence can carry a team into the stretch of conference play ahead. Elmira will look to build on this result and string together another victory as Mountain Valley Conference competition heats up in the coming weeks.
