A late-game defensive stand helped South Eugene's girls soccer team secure a 2-1 road victory over Ida B. Wells on Thursday evening, pushing the Axe to 4-1 on the season. The Eugene, Oregon-based program, which competes in the Southwest Conference (6A), picked up a valuable non-league win that continues to build momentum heading deeper into fall.

South Eugene controlled enough of the match to earn two goals against the Wildcats, though Ida B. Wells made things interesting by cutting the deficit to one before the final whistle. The Axe defense held firm when it mattered most, preserving the one-goal margin and the result.

The win improves South Eugene to 4-1 overall, a strong start for a program with Southwest Conference ambitions. Non-league games like this one provide both competitive seasoning and confidence before league play intensifies.
