McKenzie Eagles Softball 7-8 Union / Cove

A late rally came up just short as McKenzie dropped an 8-7 heartbreaker to Union/Cove on Saturday afternoon. The Eagles battled back from a deficit in the non-league softball contest but couldn't quite complete the comeback on the road.
McKenzie showed plenty of fight against the visiting tournament hosts, matching Union/Cove nearly run-for-run in what became an offensive showcase. The Eagles managed seven runs against solid competition, demonstrating the kind of production that will serve them well as league play approaches.
The one-run setback drops McKenzie to 2-2 on the young season, but the competitive showing against Union/Cove provides plenty of positives to build upon. Head coach will likely point to the team's resilience and ability to generate offense as encouraging signs.
With the non-league portion of their schedule continuing, McKenzie has opportunities to fine-tune their approach before league competition intensifies. The Eagles return to action this week looking to get back in the win column and build momentum for the stretch run.
