Churchill Lancers Football 22-49 Canby

Canby handed Churchill a 49-22 defeat Friday night in a non-league football game that sent the Lancers home to Eugene, Oregon with their first loss of the 2026 season. The Midwestern League (5A) program traveled north to face the Cougars in what proved to be a tough road test to open the year. Canby controlled much of the contest, building a lead that Churchill could not overcome despite a 22-point effort from the Lancers. The margin reflects a difficult night on both sides of the ball for Churchill, which now sits at 0-1 heading into the early weeks of the fall schedule. Road openers against out-of-area opponents can be humbling measuring sticks, and this result gives the coaching staff a clear picture of areas to address before Midwestern League play begins. Churchill will look to regroup and respond quickly, with the schedule offering opportunities ahead to find a rhythm and build toward a stronger second half of the season.
